Cleaning a window with a squeegee and applicator is how we achieve professional results. Here’s how we do it:
- Prepare the Cleaning Solution: Use a bucket with water and a small amount of washing-up liquid. You don’t need a lot of soap; a few drops will create a solution to remove grease and grime and help the squeegee glide smoothly across the glass.
- Wet the Applicator: Dip your applicator into the cleaning solution. Squeeze out excess water to avoid dripping. The applicator should be wet but not soaking.
- Clean the Window: Apply the wet applicator to the window. Scrub the window thoroughly, paying special attention to any spots or marks. Move the applicator in a circular motion or from top to bottom and side to side, ensuring the entire surface is covered. Get into the corners.
- Prep the Squeegee: Dry a narrow strip at the top or side of the window with a cloth. This creates a dry edge that prevents marks left by water tension.
- Squeegee the Water Off: Place the squeegee on the glass in the dry area you’ve created. With firm pressure, pull the squeegee down or across the window in a straight stroke. Continue across the window, overlapping each stroke by about an inch (2.5 cm), and wiping the squeegee blade with a clean cloth or towel between each stroke to avoid dragging dirt across the window.
- Wipe Edges and Corners: After you’ve removed the water with the squeegee, use a clean, dry cloth to wipe off any remaining water from the edges and corners of the window. This will prevent drips and tidy the job.
- Inspect and Touch Up: Step back and inspect the window for any streaks or missed spots. If necessary, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to touch up any areas that need extra attention.
Be aware that direct sunlight can cause the cleaning solution to dry quickly, leaving streaks. With a little practice, cleaning windows with a squeegee and applicator can be quick, efficient, and satisfying, leaving you with beautifully clear views.
